How is child benefit calculated in Brussels?

In Brussels, child benefit is indexed in line with inflation. They fluctuate in line with the level of buying power. This means that the amounts increase when the pivot index is exceeded. These amounts, calculated by the government, are therefore identical for all child benefit funds.

  • A child who has lost a parent is entitled to the basic amount + 50% of that amount. Any income or disability-related supplements are added to this.

  • Within an institution
For children placed in institutions, there are two possibilities:

Child benefit is paid as any other child not placed, with 2/3 paid to the institution or placement authority and 1/3 to the person who was receiving child benefit before the child was placed, provided that this person remains in contact with the child or shows an interest in the child.
  • Part of the child benefit is paid into a savings account in the child's name (blocked until the child reaches his or her majority) and the rest to the institution or placement authority. The amounts granted are as follows:
